IRVINE, Calif. – The Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros used a five-run ninth inning to pull away from Fort Lewis College, securing an 8-4 victory in extra innings during their second game of the Concordia Kickoff Classic on Saturday evening. The Toros struck first in the second inning when Lillianna Garcia launched a solo home run to right field, giving Dominguez Hills an early 1-0 lead. The Skyhawks responded with an RBI double in the fourth to tie the game, but the Toros reclaimed the advantage in the fifth after Alexis Aguado's RBI single up the middle brought home Mia Ayala for a 2-1 edge.
A back-and-forth battle continued into extra innings as Fort Lewis forced a 3-3 tie in the eighth. The Toros responded in dominant fashion in the ninth, capitalizing on defensive miscues and clutch hitting. Torie Au delivered the biggest blow with a two-run single up the middle before scoring on an error to extend the lead. Mireya Rico followed with an RBI double, and Alani Nguyen added another run, reaching on an infield error.
Garcia led the offensive effort, going 2-for-2 with a home run and a pair of walks. Au finished with two RBIs, while Aguado, Rico, and Nguyen each contributed run-scoring hits.
Toros will conclude the tournament Sunday, February 2nd against Hawai`i Pacific at 11:30am.
