HILO, Hawai'i — Cal State Dominguez Hills earned a gritty 61-57 victory over host Hawai'i Hilo this afternoon in the Southwest Airlines Big Island Invitational, using a dominant first half and timely defensive stops to secure their second win of the season.
The Toros (2-2) came out firing, opening the game on a 13-0 run and controlling the tempo throughout a strong 37-point first half. While the offense cooled in the second half, CSUDH's defensive presence and rebounding held firm to withstand a late push from the Vulcans.
Josiah Sanders powered the Toros with a double-double performance, setting the tone on the glass and finishing in key moments as momentum swung. DaSean Stevens added steady scoring and playmaking, and the bench chipped in essential minutes in a tight contest start to finish.
