COSTA MESA, Calif. — The No. 12 Cal State Dominguez Hills men's basketball team opened its 2025–26 regular season Friday afternoon with an 82–90 road loss to No. 7 Point Loma in the CCAA/PacWest Crossover hosted by Vanguard University at the Freed Center.
The Toros, coming off a historic 2024–25 campaign that included a trip to the NCAA Division II National Championship game, showed plenty of early-season firepower with four players scoring in double figures and shooting 52.5 percent from the field.
Dasean Stevens led CSUDH with 18 points, four steals, and four rebounds while going 8-for-18 from the floor. Jalen Brown was efficient in his Toro debut, scoring 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting and adding two steals. Josiah Sanders added 12 points and four rebounds, and returning standout David Cheatom contributed 11 points, including 6-of-7 from the free-throw line.
The Toros started fast, shooting nearly 61 percent in the first half and taking a 45–38 lead into the break. Luke Lin delivered a spark off the bench with nine points on a perfect 4-for-4 shooting performance, while returners Tomi Adesiji and Za-Ontay Boothman added productive minutes.
Point Loma responded with a strong second half, shooting 59 percent after intermission to edge out the win. CSUDH finished with 30 points in the paint, eight fast-break points, and 20 points from the bench.
The Toros' returning core of Cheatom, Lin, Adesiji, Boothman, John Solomon, DeMorian Lowe, and Promise Madubugwu helped establish rhythm as the team continues to integrate new contributors ahead of conference play.
CSUDH continues action at the CCAA/PacWest Crossover on Saturday, Nov. 15, when they face host Vanguard at 4 p.m. in Costa Mesa.
