Toros Take Down No. 1 Stanislaus State in Halloween Thriller

CARSON, Calif. — Under the lights at Toro Stadium on Halloween night, No. 10 Cal State Dominguez Hills men's soccer upset No. 1 nationally ranked Stanislaus State 1-0 in the FloCollege/CCAA Game of the Week, handing the Warriors their first loss of the season.

The win marks the Toros' eighth straight victory and improves their record to 11-2-3 overall and 7-0-1 in CCAA play. With the result, the Toros clinched a first-round bye in the CCAA Tournament and now sit atop the conference standings.

Christian Briseno scored the match's only goal in the 12th minute off an assist from Alpha Sowe, capitalizing early and setting the tone for the Toros. Goalkeeper Keegan O'Brien anchored the defense with six saves to record his seventh shutout of the year.

Defenders Diego Barahona, Sergio Valenzuela, and Ndifor Ginyui led a disciplined back line that kept the Warriors' potent offense scoreless. Justin Cuevas and Rocco Bon both made key starts—Cuevas earning his second as a Toro and Bon his fifth start of the season.

The victory also strengthens the Toros' dominant history against the Warriors. Cal State Dominguez Hills now leads the all-time series 17-4-4, remaining unbeaten in the last 10 matchups (6-0-4). Stanislaus State's last win came in 2014.

Next, the Toros will return to Toro Stadium on Sunday, Nov. 2, for their regular-season home finale against Cal State San Bernardino. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
