Toros take down No. 15 CSULA for fifth straight win

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Cal State Dominguez Hills continued its impressive run through the CCAA with another statement victory, defeating No. 15 Cal State LA 3-0 on the road Sunday night at University Stadium.

The Toros came out firing, scoring three first-half goals to silence the Golden Eagles. Sergio Valenzuela opened the scoring in the seventh minute with a long-range strike from 35 yards out off an assist from Christian Briseño. Lucas Galarza doubled the lead in the 14th minute, heading home a cross from Diego Barahona. Justin Cuevas capped the explosive first half with a goal in the 31st minute, assisted by Alpha Sowe.

Defensively, Dominguez Hills was dominant once again, limiting the Golden Eagles to just one shot on target. Goalkeeper Keegan O'Brien made one save to secure his fourth clean sheet of the season.

The Toros outshot Cal State LA 12-10 and held an 8-3 advantage in corner kicks.

The win marks the Toros' third victory over a nationally ranked opponent this season, adding to earlier wins over No. 11 Point Loma and No. 25 Cal Poly Pomona. CSUDH has now won five straight matches, with two of those coming against ranked teams.

With the result, Dominguez Hills improves to 8-2-3 overall and 5-0-1 in CCAA play, tying Stanislaus State for first place in the conference standings. The Toros have five matches remaining in the regular season as they continue their pursuit of the CCAA title.
