IRVINE, Calif. – The Cal State Dominguez Hills softball team started its 2025 campaign on a high note, securing a 5-2 win over Dominican on Friday morning at Great Park Field 3. A three-run homer from Kaylee Hull in the second inning and a dominant relief performance by Lillianna Garcia highlighted the season opener for the Toros.
After falling behind 2-0 in the first inning, Dominguez Hills responded in the second when Hull launched a three-run shot to center field, putting the Toros ahead for good. Torie Au added an RBI double in the fifth inning before Julissa Gomez drew a bases-loaded walk to bring in an insurance run.
Garcia (1-0) took over in the circle after the first inning and delivered six scoreless frames, allowing six hits while striking out two. She kept the Penguins off the board the rest of the way, stranding five runners to secure the victory.
The Toros' offense produced nine hits, led by Au, who finished 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Alexis Aguado also contributed with a triple and two hits, while Hull went 1-for-3 with three RBIs. Mireya Rico added two hits and a run scored.
