ARCATA, Calif. — The No. 3 Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros etched their names in the program's history books, earning their 20th consecutive victory to set a new single-season record with a dominant 93-59 win over Cal Poly Humboldt on Saturday afternoon at Lumberjack Arena. The Toros, now 20-0 overall and 12-0 in CCAA play, surpassed the previous record of 19 straight wins set during the 2022-23 season.
The Toros asserted their dominance from the opening tip, outscoring Humboldt 24-11 in the first quarter. Cristina Jones led the early charge with six points and four rebounds, while Nala Williams added five points and two assists. The Toros' relentless defense forced six turnovers, turning them into fast-break points to take control of the game.
In the second quarter, Dominguez Hills extended their lead with a 29-12 run, heading into halftime with a commanding 53-23 advantage. Jones continued her stellar play, contributing seven points and three rebounds, while Kya Pearson drained two three-pointers to finish the half with eight points. The Toros shot an impressive 57.9% from the field in the second quarter while holding the Lumberjacks to just 26.7% shooting.
The Toros maintained their momentum in the third quarter, outscoring Humboldt 24-12. Milan Tuttle provided a spark off the bench, hitting two three-pointers, while Teagan Thurman added six points and two rebounds in the period. Dominguez Hills' ball movement was on full display, with six players recording assists to extend the lead to 77-35 entering the fourth quarter.
In the final frame, Humboldt outscored the Toros 24-16, but it wasn't enough to overcome the deficit. Dominguez Hills' reserves closed out the game, with Kylee Edgar and A'moree Ferrel adding key baskets to seal the historic victory.
Jones led the Toros with 17 points, eight rebounds, and three steals, while Williams recorded 12 points, five assists, and four rebounds. Pearson also tallied 12 points and added four steals. Thurman chipped in 12 points and three rebounds, and Tuttle added 12 points and five rebounds off the bench. Devon Lewis contributed nine points, two rebounds, and two steals.
The Toros' defense was suffocating throughout the game, forcing 17 turnovers and converting them into 45 points. Dominguez Hills dominated the boards with a 30-23 rebounding advantage and outscored Humboldt 44-18 in the paint.
Cal State Dominguez Hills will return to action at home on Thursday, January 30, when they host Sonoma State at 5:30 p.m. in another key CCAA matchup as they look to continue their undefeated season.
