CARSON, Calif. – Cal State Dominguez Hills dominated in a straight-set victory over Cal State San Marcos, winning 3-0 (25-18, 25-13, 25-19) on Saturday afternoon in CCAA action at the Torodome. The Toros improve to 5-7 overall and 2-2 in CCAA competition, the Cougars fall to 2-9 overall and 0-4 in CCAA play.
The Toros were highly efficient on offense, finishing with 49 kills and a .358 hitting percentage while limiting Cal State San Marcos to a .220 clip. The balanced attack saw the Toros take control from the opening set, hitting .346 with 14 kills to win the first frame 25-18.
Cal State Dominguez Hills continued their strong play in the second set, posting a .433 hitting percentage with 16 kills and only 3 errors. The Toros cruised to a 25-13 win, holding the Cougars to a .083 hitting percentage in the set.
In the third and final set, the Toros recorded 19 kills while hitting .308, closing out the match with a 25-19 win. Despite a strong effort from Cal State San Marcos, the Toros consistent offense proved to be too much.
Outside hitter Ava Hurry, recorded a match-high 18 kills along with 6 digs and 1 service ace. Toro's other outside hitter Maria Bejines-Garibay added 10 kills and 14 digs for a double-double, while opposite Kayly Pau contributed 9 kills, 2 aces, and 1 block.
Setter Bailey Fuches orchestrated the offense with an impressive 43 assists, while also adding 1 block. Defensively, Nina Robles had a stellar night at the service line with 5 aces and 10 digs, providing key support in the back row.
