CARSON – In an action-packed doubleheader, the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros faced off against Cal State Monterey Bay Otters, resulting in a split with each team taking a victory.
Game One
The first game of the doubleheader saw the Otters quickly establishing a commanding lead with a two-run homer in the opening inning, setting the tone for the game. The Otters continued to capitalize on their momentum, extending their lead to 6-0 by the fifth inning. Jefferey Ray brought home the first run for the Toros as he was grounded out to the short stop. Despite a late surge from the Toros in the eighth inning, including a two-RBI double by
Garet Crenshaw and subsequent RBIs from
Emilio Barrera and
Dylan Schumacher, the early deficit proved too substantial to overcome, concluding the game at 12-5 in favor of the Otters.
Game Two
In the second game, the Toros responded with an offensive showcase. The Otters initially took the lead with three runs in the first inning. However, the Toros' bats came alive with Crenshaw blasting a three-run homer, quickly tying the game. The momentum firmly shifted in the Toros' favor in the third inning, marked by another homer from Crenshaw, followed by homers from
Trey Winget and Barrera, and an RBI double from
Alex Sepulveda. The Toros extended their lead to 12-4 by the fifth inning. Despite a late push from the Otters, which brought the score to 12-8, the Toros held on to secure the victory.
The Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros' pitching performance was key to their victory.
Julian Diaz led the effort with a solid 6-inning outing, securing his sixth win of the season. Diaz threw for 106 pitches over 27 batters, striking out six batters.
Joseph Jimenez Jr. took over in relief for the final inning of the game to close out the Otters and secure the win for the Toros.
The Toro return to Toro Field to close their series against the Otters tomorrow, Sunday, April 7
th with first pitch set for 12pm.
