CARSON – In an explosive display of offense, the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros triumphed over the Cal State Monterey Bay Otters with a high-scoring 18-12 victory.
The Toros set the pace early in the first inning, racking up five runs thanks to strategic hits and a few unearned runs due to defensive mishaps by Monterey Bay.
Trey Winget and
Garet Crenshaw initiated the scoring with a fielder's choice RBI and a sacrifice fly, respectively.
Emilio Barrera and
Grant Decatrel further extended the lead, with Decatrel's triple bringing in two more runs.
The Otters responded in the second inning with an RBI single, but the Toros' offensive momentum continued with
Noah Karliner hitting a solo home run in the second. The third inning saw the Otters hit a grand slam, tightening the score to 6-5. However, Crenshaw answered back with his own home run, maintaining the Toros' lead.
The fourth inning was pivotal for the Toros, with
Alex Sepulveda's double and another home run by Crenshaw adding to their tally. Monterey Bay attempted a comeback with a solo home run in the fifth and a series of runs in the eighth. Despite this, the Toros' offense proved too much, with Sepulveda, Accordino, and Barrera contributing key RBIs to secure the Toros' 18-12 victory.
Brian Kraft delivered a winning performance on the mound in a game that tested the Toros' defense and pitching resilience. Over five innings pitched, Kraft secure his third win of the season (3-2).
The Toros continue their series against the Otters with a doubleheader tomorrow Saturday, April 6th with first pitch set for 12pm.
