POMONA, Calif. — The Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros faced tough competition against Cal Poly Pomona, ultimately dropping both games. The first game ended with a 2-5 loss, despite strong individual performances that hinted at a possible comeback. The second game saw the Toros putting up a valiant effort before coming up short with a score of 2-9.
Game 1
The Toros initially took the lead with
Emilio Barrera and
Noah Karliner delivering solo home runs in the third and fourth innings, respectively. However, the Broncos responded in the later innings, with key hits that drove in multiple runs, turning the tide in their favor.
Toros pitcher
Evan Vazquez showed resilience despite the team's loss. Vazquez pitched seven solid innings, allowing three earned runs on six hits while striking out seven and walking just one. He managed to keep the game competitive, effectively using his 102 pitches to induce nine groundouts and five flyouts.
Game 2 started promisingly with
Noah Karliner opening the scoring again with a home run in the first inning, demonstrating his consistent power at the plate.
The Broncos, however, quickly countered in the fifth inning. With two Broncos hitting crucial doubles, contributing to a five-run inning and a three-run homer in the sixth, sealing the victory.
Julian Diaz started Game 2 for the Toros, pitching 4.1 innings and allowing five earned runs on seven hits, striking out one and walking two.
The Toros will return to action tomorrow to conclude their series with the Broncos at 12pm.
