POMONA, Calif. — The Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros struggled to contain a powerful Cal Poly Pomona offense, falling 12-1 in opening game of their weekend series.
The scoring opened in the first inning with a solo home run to left field by Cal Poly Pomona, setting the tone early. The Toros momentarily balanced the scales in the third inning when
Noah Karliner grounded out to second, allowing
Dylan Schumacher to score, tying the game at 1-1.
However, the balance shifted dramatically in the fifth inning for Pomona with a grand slam, pushing their lead to 5-1. The barrage continued into the sixth, with a double to right field that would drive in two more runs, followed by a single that brought in another, extending the lead to 8-1.
The Toros were stifled offensively, managing only a single run early in the game and were unable to stop the Broncos from scoring which resulted in the 1-12 final score.
Despite the tough loss, the Toros will look to regroup and adjust strategies as they will continue their series with a doubleheader tomorrow at 2pm and 6pm.
