CARSON — In a thrilling extra-innings game that showcased resilience and powerful hitting, the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros staged an impressive comeback to edge the Sonoma State Seawolves 15-14 on Saturday.
The scoring commenced with Sonoma State putting up an early six-run lead by the fifth inning. However, the Toros began to claw back into the game in the bottom of the fifth when
Grant Decatrel grounded out to bring in one run, followed by
CJ Masciel's sacrifice fly to add another, cutting the deficit to four runs.
In the seventh,
Anthony Accordino walked with the bases loaded to bring in a run, followed by a two-RBI single from
Emilio Barrera, narrowing the gap to just four runs. The eighth inning was pivotal for the Toros as
Noah Karliner blasted a three-run homer to center field, followed closely by Accordino's RBI single, tying the game at 10 each.
Despite Sonoma State regaining the lead in the top of the tenth, the Toros responded heroically in the bottom of the tenth.
Alex Sepulveda's RBI single and Barrera's walk with the bases loaded set the stage for
Trey Winget's game-winning three-RBI double to left center, capping off the comeback for a 15-14 victory.
The Toros are on the road next week as they take on the Cal Poly Pomona Broncos on Friday, April 26
th with first pitch set for 6pm.
