Toros Split Day Against Cal Poly Humboldt

CARSON - In the second to last matchup for conference play, the Toros faced the Cal Poly Humboldt Lumberjacks. As the conference tournament approaches, the Toros are looking to seal a high ranking in the standings before playoffs.
 
Game One
In the first matchup of the day, the Toros struggled to build momentum offensively in efforts to get the victory. In the first inning, the defense of the Toros held the Lumberjacks to zero runs. While both teams went into the second inning scoreless, the Lumberjacks got off to a good start as they brought in a run to make their lead 1-0. The next three innings were a hard fought battle as the score remained 1-0 going into the 6th inning. Pitcher Sara Bhatt did contribute defensively with 4 strikeouts in the match. With a tremendous effort in the last two innings, the Toros could not close the gap as the Lumberjacks brought in three  more runs. The Humboldt Lumberjacks won the first game with a score of 4-0.
 
Game Two
The Toros went into game two looking to split the Lumberjacks on the day. In the hard fought battle, the Toros came together successfully on offense and defense. The Lumberjacks got off to an early start as they brought in 1 run in the second inning. Throughout the match, the Toros had Kaylee Hull and Samantha Kwiatowksi with seven putouts each, holding Lumberjacks to one run going into the 7th inning. Alexis Aguado singled through the right side, advancing to second, bringing in Alex Davis. With the score tied at 1-1 at the bottom of the seventh, the match went into an eighth inning. The Toros stayed resilient and did not allow the Lumberjacks to get a run at the top of the inning. To close out the match Alani Nguyen had another strong hit as she brought Kaylee Hull into home. The Toros won the game, 2-1 with an incredible performance.

The Toros close out their series against Cal Poly Humboldt with a doubleheader tomorrow, April 20th with first pitch set for 11am.
