Toros Split Series with Cal State East Bay

HAYWARD, Calif- In a high-scoring baseball doubleheader, the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros split the series with Cal State East Bay.
 
Game 1
The Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros displayed resilience despite tough competition from Cal State East Bay. Early in the game, the Pioneers jumped to a significant lead with a flurry of runs in the first innings, capitalizing on a mix of solid hits and strategic plays. Despite the early deficit, the Toros began to rally in the second inning when Grant Decatrel ignited the comeback spirit with a powerful double down the left field line, bringing in Trey Winget for their first run.
 
As the game progressed, the Toros continued to find opportunities to score. In the fourth inning, Trey Winget, seizing a crucial at-bat, managed to drive in Anthony Accordino with a sharp single to shortstop, showing the fighting spirit of the team. But the deficit would be too much for the Toros to overcome, as they fell 2-14 in the series opener.
 
Game 2
Despite the loss in game one, the Toros bounced back impressively in game two. They showcased their resilience and batting prowess, overturning a 2-0 deficit by the end of the first inning to eventually claim an 11-7 victory.
 
Grant Decatrel and CJ Masciel sparked the comeback in the second inning, tying the game, and the momentum continued with a powerful performance by Anthony Accordino, who notched a three-run homer in the third. Noah Karliner also made significant contributions with his bat, smashing a three-run homer in the fifth to solidify the Toros' lead.
 
Julian Diaz clinched his seventh win of the season. In his 5.1 innings pitched, Diaz allowed nine hits and seven earned runs, while managing to strike out three batters. Completing 88 pitches with a decent mix of ground and fly outs, Diaz demonstrated resilience and tenacity, contributing significantly to his team's overall performance.
 
The Toros will continue the series against the Pioneers tomorrow on the road, first pitch is at 12pm.
