GAME ONE
The Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros showcased their offensive capabilities in a tight contest, but ultimately fell to the Cal State LA Golden Eagles, with a final score of 10-9. The game was a roller coaster of scoring, starting strong for the Toros before a late-game rally by Cal State LA.
The Toros burst out of the gate in the first inning with
Garet Crenshaw hitting a sacrifice fly to bring
Trey Winget home, quickly followed by
Alex Sepulveda's RBI single that scored
Noah Karliner. The momentum continued in the second inning when Karliner launched a grand slam to left field, dramatically increasing the lead to 6-0. The inning saw further runs with Sepulveda reaching on an error and
CJ Masciel adding another run with a sacrifice fly, extending the Toros' lead to 8-0.
Cal State LA began chipping away at the deficit in the fourth inning. The fifth inning saw
Alejandro Espinoza singling to left field for 2 RBIs, narrowing the gap further to 8-4. The Toros managed to add another run in the sixth due to a wild pitch, but Cal State LA's comeback in the latter innings was decisive.
The seventh inning proved pivotal for Cal State LA, mounting a comeback with a series of unearned runs due to errors and a walk with bases loaded, culminating in a two-RBI single that clinched the game for Cal State LA at 10-9.
GAME TWO
In a game that saw a series of dramatic shifts, the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros were overtaken by Cal State LA, concluding with a score of 12-5.
The matchup began with Cal State LA taking the lead with two RBIs in the first inning to give their team a 2-0 lead.
The Toros responded assertively in the second inning, showcasing their offensive strength.
Anthony Accordino scored off a wild pitch, setting the stage for
Trey Winget who blasted a grand slam to right field, vaulting the Toros ahead with a 5-2 lead. This moment highlighted the Toros' resilience and ability to strike back under pressure.
However, Cal State LA mounted a comeback in the third inning, with an RBI double and a two-run homer erasing the deficit and tying the game. A single then pushed Cal State LA into the lead, a position they would only build upon.
The Toros were unable to halt the Cal State LA's offence as they cemented a 12-5 victory.
