CARSON, Calif. – The Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros fall short 0-2, in a double header against Cal State San Bernardino at home.
The Toros fell to the San Bernardino Yotes with a final score of 6-2 in the first match and 9-5 in the second. These losses are the first for the Toros in CCAA play. The Toros still hold first place in the CCAA standings with a record of 13-5 and 10-2 in the conference.
GAME ONE
The Yotes had a dominant start as they led the first two innings with 2 runs. Mariah Ramirez cut the Yotes lead short in the third inning with a homer to right center field and one RBI.
From the second to the fifth inning, excellent defense from both teams left the score at 2-1 going into the sixth.
Despite the Toros' effort to deplete the Yotes offense, it was cut short by a run for the Yotes at the top of the sixth. Their offense continued to excel as they brought in 2 more runs before the Toros were up to bat.
The Toros stayed resilient going into the top of the 7th yet the Yotes brought in 1 more to bring the lead to 6-1. Still putting up a fight Kaylee Hull had one RBI bringing in Samantha Kwiatowski at the bottom of the seventh. As the Toros stood 6-2 they ultimately fell to the Yotes.
GAME TWO
In a hard fought battle the Toros ultimately fell short in the second match with the Yotes, 9-5. The Toros put up a fight all the way until the end making 4 runs in the 3rd inning to attempt to close the scoring deficit.
CSUSB came with an even stronger start as they led the Toros 3-0 in the top of the first inning. As Samantha Kwiatkowski went up to bat with bases loaded, she had an RBI as she brought in Jay Ross to put the score at 3-1. The Toros went scoreless in the 2nd inning as the Yotes brought in 3 more runs making the Yotes lead 5-1.
The Yotes came out dominating in the top of the 3rd inning as they scored 4 runs. Though the Toros struggled early on in the match, their offense came together in the bottom of the 3rd. Mariah Ramirez hit another homer on the day into left center with 2 RBIs bringing in Kianna Abellera bringing the score to 9-3.
As the Toros tried to dig themselves out of a deficit, Alani Nguyen singled to center field with 2 RBIs. With Nguyen getting on base, it brought in Kaylee Hull and Mireya Rico.
The score being 9-5 after the third inning both teams remained scoreless to give the Yotes their second victory of the day.
The Toros return to the field tomorrow Saturday, March 9th at 12pm and 2pm for another double header match against the Cal State San Bernardino Yotes.
