LOS ANGELES, Calif. – In a spirited showdown, the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros displayed resilience, though they ultimately fell short in a 10-5 contest against the Cal State LA Golden Eagles.
From the onset, the Toros took command with
Noah Karliner, driving in
Trey Winget, in the first inning, thanks to a keen hit and an opportunistic advance on a fielding error.
The Toros, undeterred by Cal State LA's efforts to even the score, showcased their fighting spirit in the fifth inning.
Emilio Barrera's sacrifice fly brought home Winget, underscoring the team's ability to capitalize on scoring opportunities. This was further evidenced by runs scored off fielding errors by Cal State LA, with Karliner and
Anthony Accordino crossing the plate due to vigilant base running, temporarily putting the Toros back in the lead.
Despite Cal State LA's mid-game rally, the Toros continued to press.
Eric Nakano's RBI double in the seventh inning highlighted Dominguez Hills' refusal to back down, bringing in Accordino to narrow the gap.
The remainder of the game went scoreless as Cal State LA won the first game of the series.
