CHICO, Calif., - The Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros split a doubleheader against Chico State, bouncing back to secure a victory in the second game.
Game 1:
The opening game saw Chico State scoring quickly, with a series of hits in the first inning leading to four runs. Despite a spirited effort from the Toros, including a sacrifice fly RBI by
Trey Winget in the third inning and a single RBI by
Emilio Barrera in the sixth, they could not overcome the early deficit which would result in a 7-2 victory for Chico State.
Game 2:
Determined to even the score in the doubleheader, the Toros showcased their offensive capabilities in Game 2.
Jeffrey Ray's three-RBI double in the second inning set the tone, driving in
CJ Masciel,
Garet Crenshaw, and
Anthony Accordino for an early lead. The Toros further capitalized on Chico State's errors, with
CJ Masciel reaching on a fielder's choice and later scoring on an error added to the tally with a single RBI in the sixth inning, pushing the Toros ahead 5-0.
Chico State mounted a late rally in the seventh inning, delivering clutch hits to close the gap to 5-3. However, the Toros' pitching and defense held firm, securing a 5-3 victory and splitting the day's matchups.

Julian Diaz delivered a strong performance as the starting pitcher, earning his fifth win of the season. Over 6 innings, Diaz allowed just 3 hits and 2 earned runs while striking out 4 batters. His ability to limit Chico State's offense while navigating through 23 batters with 84 pitches demonstrated both efficiency and control.
Chris Cornelius came in relief for the final inning, contributing to the team's effort to seal the win. Only allowing 1 run on 1 hit and a walk, Cornelius struck out a batter and managed to close out the game effectively.
