CARSON – In a commanding display of pitching and on targeting batting, the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros clinched a decisive 14-4 victory over the Cal State San Bernardino Coyotes, showcasing their batting depth and resilience throughout the game.
The Toros set the tone early, with
Noah Karliner launching a solo home run to right field in the first inning, marking the beginning of a prolific day for the team's offense. By the third inning,
Alex Sepulveda contributed an RBI through a fielder's choice, extending the lead to 2-0.
Cal State San Bernardino briefly took the lead in the fourth inning, capitalizing on a double and a two-RBI single, pushing ahead 3-2. However, this was short-lived as the Toros responded emphatically in the fifth. Karliner, not satisfied with just one homer, blasted another to right field, tying the game at 3-3.
Garet Crenshaw then delivered a two-RBI single, followed by
Andrew Buglino's, RBI single, thrusting the Toros ahead 6-3.
The sixth inning saw the Toros further widen their lead, with
Anthony Accordino's RBI double, Crenshaw's two-RBI double, and
Emilio Barrera's two-run homer, catapulting the score to 11-3 in favor of the Toros. Despite a solo home run by the Coyotes in the eighth, the Toros continued their offensive onslaught with
CJ Masciel,
Jeffrey Ray, and Karliner each contributing RBI doubles, finalizing the score at 14-4.
The Toros' pitching played a pivotal role in securing their dominant victory, with starter
Pat MacDonald earning his first win of the season. MacDonald's impressive outing lasted 8 innings, during which he surrendered 4 runs on 7 hits, striking out 7 batters while walking only 2.
