CARSON – In a high-scoring affair, Cal State Dominguez Hills started strong but couldn't keep pace with Cal State San Marcos, eventually falling 13-8.
The Toros opened with a solo home run from
Noah Karliner and a two-run shot by
Garet Crenshaw in the first inning.
Andrew Buglino, added another homer in the second, giving Dominguez Hills an early 4-0 lead. However, the Cougars began chipping away in the third with an RBI groundout and a two-run homer, narrowing the gap to 4-3.
The Toros responded in the bottom half with Crenshaw's RBI single, an RBI double by
Anthony Accordino, and a sacrifice fly from
Alex Sepulveda, pushing their lead to 7-3. The Cougars answered in the fourth with two runs and tied the game in the fifth with two solo homers.
Crenshaw's solo home run in the fifth briefly put the Toros briefly back in front. Cal State San Marcos tied it again in the sixth, then took the lead in the seventh with a solo home run and three-run homer. The Toros ultimately fell to Cal State San Marcos in game one of the series, 8-13.
The Toros return to the Toro Field tomorrow for a doubleheader as they continue their series against Cal State San Marcos with first pitch set for 11am.
