CARSON – The Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros defeated the Stanislaus State Warriors in both games on the day to secure the 4-0 sweep.
GAME ONE
In the first game of a doubleheader, the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros softball team notched a hard-fought victory over Stanislaus State, with a final score of 5-3. The Toros opened the scoring in the first inning when
Mariah Ramirez singled, bringing
Alexis Aguado in for the score, though Ramirez was caught in a bid for a double. Momentum continued with
Mireya Rico two-run homer in the second inning, pushing the Toros ahead 3-0.
Stanislaus State began their counterattack in the third with Martello's double, but the Toros extended their lead once more when K. Abellera scored G. Gandara on a fielder's choice. The fourth inning saw Stanislaus State close as they drew bases-loaded walks to bring the score to 4-3. However, the Toros sealed their victory in the sixth inning, courtesy of Rico's single and an ensuing defensive error that allowed
Mia Ayala to score, setting the final score at 5-3.
GAME TWO
The second game showcased the Toros' overwhelming dominance as they cruised to a 12-3 victory over Stanislaus State. The Toros struck early, with
Mariah Ramirez earning an RBI as
Alexis Aguado scored in the first inning. The second inning featured a spectacular offensive display, highlighted by Aguado's base-clearing triple that sent
Kianna Abellera,
Kaylee Hull, and
Samantha Kwiatkowski home, extending the Toros' lead to 4-0.
Despite a rally from Stanislaus State in the third as the Warriors brought in two runs, the Toros' offense was unstoppable.
Mireya Rico, Hull, and Abellera each drove in runs to further the lead. In the fourth
Jay Ross blasted a three-run homer, followed by
Mariah Ramirez's solo shot and
Alani Nguyen sacrifice fly, which culminated in a commanding 12-3 score.
The Toros are on the road next week as they take on Sonoma State with the first doubleheader of the series on Friday, February 23
rd with first pitch set for 12pm.
