The Toros Overpower Stanislaus State 2-0 in Double-Header

TURLOCK, Calif.- Game 1
The Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros secured a 5-2 victory over the Stanislaus State Warriors in game one of the double-header.

The Toros wasted no time asserting their dominance, with Garet Crenshaw's sacrifice fly bringing in Noah Karliner for the opening run in the bottom of the first inning. Emilio Barrera, who advanced to second on the play, was promptly sent home on a single by Alex Sepulveda, doubling the Toros' lead early on.

CJ Masciel further widened the gap in the fourth with a solo homer to left field, pushing the Toros to a 3-0 lead. The sixth inning saw Jeffrey Ray's single and an aggressive advance to second on the throw bring Dalton Cram across the plate, marking a 4-0 scoreline.

The Warriors attempted a comeback in their half of the sixth when they single to shortstop allowing them to score an unearned run, putting them on the board. However, the Toros responded in the ninth with Garet Crenshaw's second sacrifice fly of the game, allowing Jeffrey Ray to tag up and score, solidifying Dominguez Hills' lead at 5-1.

In a late-game push, Stanislaus State singled to right field, scoring and narrowing the gap to 5-2. However, the Toros' pitching and defense held firm, closing out the game and securing the win, 5-2.

Evan Vazquez (W, 1-3) set the tone with a commanding performance.  He threw an impressive seven innings, surrendering just one unearned run on eight hits. He struck out three batters without issuing a walk. Vasquez's ability to induce ground balls was on display as he racked up 11 groundouts, contributing to his efficient 87-pitch count.

Relief pitcher Joseph Jimenez took over in the eighth, delivering a scoreless inning. He managed to strike out one batter and kept Stanislaus State from capitalizing on any scoring opportunities.

Closer Chris Cornelius stepped in to seal the game in the ninth, facing some adversity by allowing one run on one hit and two walks.

Game 2
Following their win earlier in the afternoon the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros overpowered Stanislaus State with a commanding 14-4 victory.

The Toros' lineup was relentless from the start, taking the lead in the third inning when Andrew Buglino singled to right field, bringing Emilio Barrera home for the first run. The onslaught continued as Trey Winget crushed a two-run homer to right-center, and a passed ball allowed Anthony Accordino to score, pushing the lead to 4-0.

The fourth inning saw the Toros widen the gap as Barrera's sacrifice fly brought Jeffrey Ray across the plate. Anthony Accordino then tripled, clearing the bases with three RBIs, and CJ Masciel's single drove in another run, ballooning the lead to 9-0. The fifth inning saw Barrera and Accordino adding RBIs to their tally with a double and a single, respectively, making it an 11-0 game.

Stanislaus State managed to break through in the bottom of the fifth with two Warriors delivering RBI singles, cutting the deficit to 11-3. However, the Toros' Anthony Buglino responded in the sixth with a two-RBI single, and Noah Karliner doubled for another run in the seventh, keeping the pressure on.

Despite a late RBI double from the Warriors in the seventh, the Toros had already done enough damage to secure the win with a ten-run margin, 14-4.

The Toros' pitching staff complemented their team's offensive surge with a strong performance on the mound, starting with Julian Diaz, who earned the win with a solid five-inning outing. Diaz navigated through some Stanislaus State resistance to strike out six, while giving up three earned runs on five hits and three walks. His 81 pitches across those five innings demonstrated both efficiency and control, maintaining the lead his team provided.

Anthony Corrales took the reins in the sixth, delivering a flawless frame with no hits, runs, or walks, retiring the side on just 11 pitches in a display of command. Noah Karliner followed in the seventh, adding a bit of drama by allowing one earned run on one hit, but he too showcased his strikeout ability by fanning two batters.

The Toros and Stanislaus State will end the series tomorrow at 12:00pm in Turlock.
