CARSON- In a closely contested matchup, The Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros were unable to overcome Sonoma State, falling 65-73. Despite a spirited comeback in the second half, the Toros couldn't bridge the gap established by Sonoma State's strong early performance.
The win improves Sonoma State's record to 14-12 overall and 9-10 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), while Cal State Dominguez Hills moves to 13-12 overall and 10-9 in conference play.
Sonoma State set the pace in the first half, establishing an 18-15 lead in the first quarter and extending their advantage with a 21-6 run in the second. This offensive surge gave the Seawolves a comfortable lead going into halftime, with the scoreboard reading 39-21 in their favor.
Facing a significant deficit, CSUDH mounted an impressive rally in the second half. The Toros outscored Sonoma State 22-15 in the third quarter and continued their offensive momentum with another 22 points in the fourth quarter. Their resilience and determination were on full display as they narrowed the lead and threatened Sonoma State's position.
Despite the Toros' valiant effort, Sonoma State managed to maintain their lead, adding 19 points in the final quarter to secure a 73-65 victory.
Before the game the Toros recognized their two seniors as it was the last home games for both
Asia Jordan and
Rebecca Penner.

Also, during the eventful homecoming afternoon, last years' 22-23 team was recognized as returning and current players received their rings for winning the West Regional Tournament.
Nala Williams emerged as a standout for the Toros, leading the charge with 20 points over 33 minutes on the court. Williams' scoring effort, including a 7-21 shooting performance and 5-6 from the free-throw line, was complemented by her contribution of five rebounds, six assists, and an impressive five steals. She was also recognized for her record breaking 42-point game this season as she broke the school record for most single points games since 1982.
Asia Jordan also played a pivotal role, notching a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds in a full 40 minutes of action. Jordan's 5-12 shooting and 4-5 from the free-throw line, along with four assists and a steal.
Hosanna Walker and
Joe'l Benoit provided additional support, scoring seven points each. Walker's presence was felt beyond her scoring, contributing three rebounds and a steal, while Benoit bolstered the team's defense with four rebounds and four steals.
The Toros will go on the road as they take on Chico State Thursday, February 25
th at 5:30pm.
