CARSON, Calif. — The No. 9 Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros showcased their defensive dominance in a 68-41 victory over Cal State LA on Saturday afternoon at the Torodome. The Toros remain undeafeated and improved to 13-0 overall and 4-0 in CCAA play, forcing 31 turnovers and converting them into 28 points to secure the win.
The game started with a back-and-forth first quarter, with Cal State LA holding an 18-17 lead after the opening period. Nala Williams kept the Toros close with eight points and four steals, while Hosanna Walker contributed five points, including a three-pointer. In the second quarter, Dominguez Hills' defense took control, limiting the Golden Eagles to just eight points. The Toros went on a 15-8 run, with key baskets from Williams and Walker, to take a 32-26 lead into halftime.
The Toros exploded in the third quarter, outscoring Cal State LA 26-8. Their suffocating defense forced 10 turnovers in the period, while Walker and Asia Jordan combined for 15 points to extend the lead. The bench also played a key role, with Milan Tuttle contributing five points during the run. Entering the fourth quarter, the Toros held a commanding 58-34 advantage.
In the final period, the Toros closed out the game with a balanced effort, holding Cal State LA to just seven points while adding 10 of their own. Williams and Cristina Jones secured key rebounds to maintain control, and the Toros' defense sealed the victory with multiple late-game steals.
Williams led the Toros with 18 points, six rebounds, six assists, and an impressive eight steals. Walker added 11 points and two assists, while Jordan chipped in six points, one rebound, and a steal. Tuttle contributed five points and four rebounds off the bench, and Teagan Thurman added five points, four rebounds, and one steal.
The Toros will return to action on the road as they take on Cal Poly Pomona in a CCAA matchup on Thursday, January 2, at 5:30 p.m.
