CARSON, Calif. — Cal State Dominguez Hills kept their undefeated season alive with a decisive 75-56 victory over Dominican University on Thursday evening at the Torodome. The Toros improved to 5-0 behind a balanced offensive effort and a strong defensive presence, highlighted by guard Kya Pearson's impressive six blocks, a standout defensive performance from the perimeter.
The Toros came out firing in the first quarter, opening the game with a 13-0 run, capped by a jumper from Asia Jordan at 7:20. Hosanna Walker drained a three-pointer at 6:03, pushing the lead to 18-4, while Jordan and Nala Williams dominated the glass to extend possessions. Cristina Jones added a fastbreak layup at 3:45, helping the Toros close the quarter with a 27-16 lead.
The second quarter saw a brief scoring drought for Dominguez Hills as Dominican tightened their defense, but Walker's three-pointer at 8:28 and Jordan's layup at 7:20 kept the Toros ahead. Despite being outscored 13-8 in the period, Dominguez Hills entered halftime with a 35-29 lead.
In the third quarter, the Toros regained control. Walker opened the scoring with a jumper at 8:07, and Malia Goldsmith added back-to-back three-pointers at 6:14 and 5:36, extending the lead to 43-38. Jones's two free throws at 3:05 and a jumper at 2:38 gave the Toros a nine-point cushion heading into the fourth quarter.
Dominguez Hills dominated the final quarter, outscoring Dominican 23-12. Jordan scored on a tip-in at 8:37 and followed with a layup at 7:57, giving the Toros a 58-46 lead. Williams hit a three-pointer at 7:21 and added a fastbreak layup at 3:02 to push the lead to 20 points. Jones capped the night with a layup at 1:18 to seal the victory.
Jordan led the way for the Toros with a double-double, posting 19 points and 11 rebounds while adding six assists. Williams contributed 14 points, five rebounds, and four steals, while Walker added 11 points and six rebounds. Jones provided a spark off the bench with 12 points and nine rebounds, helping Dominguez Hills control the boards with a 56-39 rebounding advantage.
The Toros will look to continue their winning streak as they head on the road to face Cal State LA on Sunday, November 24th, at 1:00 p.m.
