CARSON, Calif. – Cal State Dominguez Hills closed out the 2024 season with a commanding sweep over Cal Poly Humboldt (25-19, 25-18, 25-21) on Senior Night at the Torodome. The evening began with a heartfelt ceremony honoring seniors
Kayly Pau (#23) and
Aleya Starnes (#24) for their dedication and impact on the program.
The Toros were fueled by an exceptional performance from outside hitterÂ
Ava Hurry, who tallied 19 kills on 41 attempts with a .317 hitting percentage, while adding 6 digs and a block. Middle blockerÂ
Aleya Starnes delivered a strong showing at the net, contributing 6 kills on a .455 hitting percentage, along with 2 blocks. Right side
Kayly Pau added 8 kills and 2 block assists, hitting an efficient .263.
In the first set, the Toros jumped out to an early lead, using efficient attacking from Hurry and Pau to hit .239 as a team. Defensive efforts from libero
Nina Robles, who recorded 21 digs, limited Cal Poly Humboldt's offense. A late push by the Lumberjacks was thwarted by timely kills from Perdue and Starnes, giving the Toros a 25-19 victory.
The second set saw the Toros demonstrate resilience, overcoming an early deficit with aggressive serving from
Bailey Fuches, who finished with 2 aces and 21 assists. The front row dominated at the net, with Starnes and
Camryn Perdue combining for key blocks to swing the momentum in the Toros' favor. With a balanced attack, the Toros pulled away for a 25-18 win.
The third set was the most competitive, featuring multiple lead changes and rallies. The Toros capitalized on their hitting efficiency, posting a match-high .313 percentage. Hurry and Pau delivered crucial kills in crunch time, while Robles anchored the defense with several key digs. The Toros sealed the match with a decisive 25-21 set victory, closing out their season in style.
