Toros Fall 3-1 to Cal State Monterey Bay

SEASIDE, Calif.— Cal State Dominguez Hills put up a spirited second-half fight but ultimately fell 3-1 to Cal State Monterey Bay on Friday at Cardinale Stadium. Kaila Tone scored the Toros' lone goal on a penalty kick, marking her first goal of the season in the 57th minute. With this result, Cal State Dominguez Hills moves to 4-6-5 overall and 2-3-4 in conference play.

The Toros faced early pressure as Monterey Bay opened the scoring in the 9th minute with a goal by Audrey Reyna, followed by a second from Jaedyn Sanders in the 17th minute, giving the Otters a 2-0 lead heading into halftime.

Cal State Dominguez Hills regrouped in the second half and increased their offensive efforts, outshooting Monterey Bay 7-4 in the period. Defender Emma Arkus had the Toros' first chance in the 26th minute, sending a shot just wide right. Makenzie Hewison came close in the 49th minute with a low shot on goal, saved by Monterey Bay goalkeeper Nylah Mirshafiei.

Tone's penalty goal in the 57th minute brought the score to 3-1 after a foul in the box. She later attempted another shot in the 85th minute, narrowly missing high. Lauryn Bailey and Christine Duarte also contributed offensively, with Duarte's last-minute shot hitting the crossbar in the 90th minute.

Audrey Haman made four key saves in goal for the Toros, including a critical stop on a close-range shot by Audrey Reyna in the 87th minute. Despite their efforts, the Toros could not close the gap after Monterey Bay's third goal in the 54th minute.

The Toros will aim to bounce back in their next match on Sunday, November 3rd, at 2 p.m. against San Francisco State.
