CHICO, Calif.— Cal State Dominguez Hills fought to a 2-2 draw against Chico State on Sunday, with goals from
Ndifor Ginyui and Chris Briseno helping the Toros earn a point in a tightly contested match.
Chico State opened the scoring early with a penalty kick in the 8th minute, but the Toros responded with multiple offensive pushes.
Jose Peredia fired the first shot for CSUDH in the opening minute, followed by a near miss from
Ramiro Rosas in the 17th minute. Peredia again forced a save in the 20th and 28th minutes, keeping Chico's defense on high alert.
The breakthrough for Cal State Dominguez Hills came just before halftime. In the 45th minute, Ginyui headed home a goal, assisted by Rosas, leveling the score 1-1 heading into the break.
Chico State regained the lead with another penalty kick in the 60th minute, but CSUDH refused to back down. Briseno equalized just five minutes later with a powerful finish, tying the game 2-2. The Toros continued to create chances, with
Gavin Brummer's shot in the 72nd minute and a dangerous attempt by
Taj Winnard in the 76th minute, both of which were saved by Chico State's goalkeeper, Emanuel Padilla.
Despite late pressure from both sides, the match ended in a draw. The Toros took 12 total shots, with seven on target, while Arturo Magaña made a critical save to keep Chico from taking the lead in the second half.
CSUDH will look to build on this resilient performance as they prepare for their next match at home against Cal Poly Humboldt on Friday, October 11th at 4:30pm.Â
