CARSON – The Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros earned an electrifying five-set win over Chico State (17-25, 23-25, 25-17, 25-22, 15-11) Friday evening at the Torodome, rallying from a two-set deficit to claim their third CCAA victory of the season.
The Toros (6-9, 3-4 CCAA) were led by an outstanding performance from
Ava Hurry, who tallied a season-high 22 kills, hitting .276, and added 10 digs.
Kayly Pau also made a significant impact with 16 kills and 3 blocks, while sophomore
Camryn Perdue contributed 12 kills on 26 attempts, hitting .231.
After dropping the first two sets, the Toros roared back in the third with a .368 hitting percentage, posting 19 kills and just 5 errors to take a decisive 25-17 win. The momentum continued into the fourth set, where
Bailey Fuches continued to orchestrate the attack. Fuches amassed 42 assists along with 16 digs on the game, as the Toros edged out Chico State 25-22 to force a fifth set.
In the decisive set, the Toros hit .444 with 10 kills and only two errors, sealing the match with a 15-11 win. Defensively,
Nina Robles anchored the back row with 11 digs and served three aces, while
Ava Goettsche added seven digs and two aces of her own.
The victory moves Cal State Dominguez Hills to 3-4 in conference play, with their next match set for tomorrow, Saturday, October 12
th at 3pm against Stanislaus State in the Torodome.
