Toros Winning Streak Comes to a Halt Falling to Cal Poly Pomona 70-80

POMONA,Calif.- The California State University, Dominguez Hills Toros four game winning streak was cut short as they fell to Cal Poly Pomona on the road 70-80. 

The Toros are now 6-6 in CCAA standings and 9-9 overall as the Broncos move to 8-4 in CCAA play and 12-5 overall. 

Both teams would shoot well in the beginning of the game as each team  would shoot over 50% from the field in the first quarter. The Toros would have a more efficient shooting quarter as they shot 61% from the field. But the Broncos would take more shots and start to heat up behind the three point line going 5-10 in the quarter and hold a 27-18 lead. 

In the second quarter the Toros would out score the Broncos by 5, 21-16 and force them to turnover the ball eight times. Defensively the Toros would also hold them to only 1-2 from the three point line by limiting open shots. In the quarter the Toros would hit 7-11 of their free throws to slow down the Broncos momentum. At the half the Broncos lead would be cut to four points, 43-39.

Both teams increased their defensive pressure after halftime only scoring 13 points each in the quarter. With the added defensive pressure each team shot under 30% from the field, with the Broncos still leading 56-52 after the third quarter. 

In the fourth quarter the Toros would fight back to come within three points with three minutes left in the game. The Broncos would then go on a 8-0 run with 1:30 seconds left to play in the game. They would eventually secure the win down the stretch 80-70. 

Asia Jordan would have a double double on the night scoring 24 points and grabbing 16 rebounds. She would also shoot 9-15 from the field and have three steals for the Toros. 

Nala Williams  would also have 24 points on the night. Also adding nine rebounds, 4-9 from the three point line, and two steals. 

The Torors remain on the road as they take on Cal State San Bernardino Saturday, January 27th at 1:00pm.
