CARSON – In a gripping encounter, the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros and the Western Colorado University Mountaineers fought to a thrilling 2-2 draw.
Alicia Covarrubias broke the deadlock in the 16th minute off an assist from
Cynthia Ramirez. Western Colorado responded swiftly, with a goal just four minutes later. The Mountaineers put another one in the back of the net taking the lead, 2-1.
Alyssa Villalobos, backed by
Sora Yun and
Emma Arkus, equalized in the 64th minute, sealing the 2-2 scoreline.
Among the standout performers for CSUDH, was forward
Alyssa Villalobos who led the attack, managing three shots, with two on target, and netting the crucial equalizing goal during her 73 minutes on the field. Another forward,
Alicia Covarrubias, made her presence felt by opening the score for the Toros. She took two shots, one finding its mark, and contributed on the pitch for 55 minutes.
Defenders
Sora Yun and
Emma Arkus were pivotal in the team's defensive strategy. They not only held the line but were also instrumental in setting up Villalobos' goal. Yun played for 70 minutes, and Arkus stayed on the field for 71.
The Toros make their next appearance at the annual Dignity Health Sports park match where they will face Cal State LA with a 3:30pm kickoff.
