Toros Salvage Series Finale with 6-3 Win at Sonoma State

ROHNERT PARK -- After dropping a 14-4 decision to open today's doubleheader at Sonoma State, Scott Ogrin and Aaron Greenfield each went deep in the nightcap as the Toros took a 6-3 win over the hosts to salvage the series finale.

With the win, CSUDH snaps a four-game skid before traveling to CS San Marcos for a Tuesday contest.

After staking the hosts to a 2-0 advantage, Ogrin cut CSUDH's deficit in half with a solo shot in the 2nd inning, before Eddie Morales tied the game with an RBI double to left.

Greenfield gave the Toros the lead for good in the next inning with a solo shot, before Eric Smelko drove in  Vincent Temesvary later in that inning for an insurance run.

SSU earned one of those runs back in the 3rd, but a Temesvary 2RBI double one inning later doubled CSUDH's lead, accounting for the game's final score.

Greenfield, Anthony Accordino and Emilio Barrera each knocked two hits in the win with Julian Diaz picking up the win after tossing 4.0 innings in relief.

In the opener, the Toros belted two home runs in the first two innings of play gave the visitors a 3-0 lead early, but SSU outscored the Toros 11-1 the rest of the way en route to a 14-4 win

Temesvary and Brock Denbo (pictured) both went yard, with Denbo belting a 2-run blast in the 2nd.

Things appeared promising as the Toros looked to a four-consecutive loss as Temesvary belted a solo shot in the 1st with Denbo duplicating his teammate's feat an inning later with a runner on to give CSUDH a 3-0 lead.

SSU answered with two runs in its 2nd inning at-bat before a Barrera RBI single brought in Ogrin to double the Toro lead to 4-2.

That's when the Seawolves bats came alive as SSU scored 12 unanswered runs to run away with the game, the big innings coming in a six-run 6th and a four-run 8th to put the game away.

Greenfield, Ogrin, Barrera and Miguel Marin each knocked a pair of hits in the loss as the two teams combined for 26 hits in the offensive contest.
