Box Score CHICO -- Junior
Maiya Lopez went 2-for-4 with a pair of runs batted in that came in the top of the 7th inning with the bases loaded and one out, but Chico State's pitching staff buckled down and retired the final two Toros they faced to hang on for a 5-4 win despite committing three errors.
Game two of today's regularly scheduled doubleheader was canceled due to game one starting at 4 pm after field prep.
The Toros spotted the hosts a 2-0 lead before tying it in the 3rd inning, courtesy of an
Alex Davis bases-loaded single to bring home two.
Chico State answered with three runs in the 5th inning to head into the 7th, where the Toros mounted a rally.
In that frame, an error placed
Kaylee Hull on first, which was followed by a Davis walk.Â
Alexus Corona then laced a pinch-hit single up the middle to load the bases, prompting a pitching change.
Lopez greeted the newcomer with a single to left to bring home two and make the score 5-4, but that would be all the Toros could muster in the loss.
All three CSUDH pitchers saw action today, with
Sara Bhatt taking the loss after going 2.1 innings and allowing all the runs in the 5th.
The teams conclude their series tomorrow morning, with first pitch of game one scheduled for 11 am.
