Box Score 2 TURLOCK -- Senior
Alyssa Olague (pictured) tossed 6.2 innings of five-hit ball while
Kaylee Hull and
Alex Davis went deep, staking Cal State Dominguez Hills to a 4-1 win to open today's twinbill at host Stanislaus State.
Alani Nguyen then took her turn as heroine as she belted a 2-run shot in the top of the 6th to erase a 1-run deficit and lead the Toros to not only a Saturday sweep, but a sweep of the series as well, and moves them into sole possession of 4th place in the CCAA standings with four games left in the regular season.
Hull continued to swing the hot stick, belting a solo shot on the first pitch she saw during her 2nd-inning at-bat to give the Toros a 1-0 lead. After the hosts tied the game in the frame, CSUDH took the lead for good in the next inning, courtesy of a
Raquel Jaime RBI double.
That proved plenty for Olague, who allowed just one run while fanning 11 batters without a walk, and benefited in the 7th from teammate
Alex Davis' 2-run blast for a pair of insurance runs in the 4-1 win.
The nightcap was a different story as the hosts took their first lead of the weekend after answering CSUDH's solo run in the 1st with two of their own in their first at-bat, adding a third run in the bottom of the 2nd.
Despite being held hitless in this game for the first time this series, Hull still made her presence felt by lifting a sacrifice fly in the 3rd to cut her team's deficit to a single run.
Stan State answered with a run in the 3rd to take a 4-2 lead, only to have
Jay Ross counter with an RBI single to bring hom MIa Ayala in the 4th.
That's where the score stood until the 6th when the Toros rallied. In the frame, pinch-hitter
Kianna Abellera belted a double to center field on the first pitch she saw to lead off the frame, and was pinch-run for by Rianna Delabarcena.
Up stepped Nguyen as a pinch-hitter, where she turned on the first pitch she saw and lined a no-doubter over the left field fence for what would prove to be the game-winner.
Ashley Wies entered with one out in the 3rd and retired all eight batters she faced to pick up the win, while Olague earned the save to end a stellar weekend in which she picked up three wins and a save.
The Toros head home next weekend for the final series of the regular season, hosting league-leader Sonoma State in what could be a preview of both CCAA and NCAA postseason match-ups.
First pitch of Friday's opener will be at 1 pm on Toro Diamond.
