Box Score 2 CARSON -- Back-to-back RBI doubles from
Alex Davis (pictured) and
Raquel Jaime proved to be the difference as Cal State Dominguez Hills got back to its winning ways with a 2-1 win over visiting Cal State Monterey Bay to kick off today's double-header on Toro Diamond.
The Toros snapped a 3-game skid with starter
Alyssa Olague improving to 8-6 with the win, before the Otters took a 3-2 decision in the nightcap.
Game one was scoreless until the bottom of the 3rd when the Toros broke through with a pair of runs. Â
In the frame,
Alyssa Yslas stroked a one-out single up the middle and stole second. After a fly out, Davis brought her home with an opposite field double, with Jaime trading places with Davis with her own opposite field double.
CSUMB finally got on board in the 5th off of starter
Alyssa Olague, but reliever
Sara Bhatt kept the Otter bats at bay with 2.2 innings of work to preserve the win and pick up her third save of the year.
Davis stroked two hits in the win as the teams combined for just nine hits against tough pitching.
The nightcap saw the Otters break the ice with two in the 2nd, before a
Kaylee Hull RBI single one inning later cut CSUDH's deficit in half.
That's where the the score stood until the 6th when
Jay Ross stroked an opposite field single to left to bring home
Faith Hernandez. The Toros had a chance to take the lead as the next batter in
Alex Davis reached on a fielding error by Otter second baseman Ashley Honorio, but Honorio regrouped to chase down the errant ball and fire a strike to home plate, gunning out Ross who was attempting to come home from second base.
CSUMB capitalized on that momentum in the top of the 7th as a fielder error on a comebacker to lead off the inning put Honorio on third base, coming home on a sacrifice fly on the ensuing at-bat.
Raquel and Hull each knocked a pair of hits in the loss.
The two teams complete their four-game set tomorrow morning, with first pitch set for 11 am on Toro Diamond.
