SAN MARCOS -- Cal State Dominguez Hills'
Alani Nguyen (pictured) belted two home runs in the opener and
Kaylee Hull added another in the nightcap as the 17th-ranked Toros took a pair from 5th-ranked Cal State San Marcos this afternoon at the CSUSM Softball Field by 3-1 and 5-0 counts.
CSUDH has now won four-straight, and improve to 7-3 in CCAA play.
After the hosts scored the opening game's first run, Nguyen gave the Toros the lead for good in the 3rd with a shot over the right field wall to bring home
Alyssa Yslas, who singled to open the frame.
Nguyen was at it again three innings later as she sent another ball over the right field fence for a much-needed insurance run.
Ashley Wies was the beneficiary of Nguyen's power surge, tossing 5.0 innings of no-hit ball to improve to 3-2 on the year.
The nightcap saw the Toros continue their run production, starting with a pair of unearned runs in the 3rd for a 2-0 lead.
Their lead ballooned two innings later as Hull turned on a 1-0 pitch with runners on 1st and 2nd, and launched it over the centerfield fence for a 5-0 lead.
That was plenty for the duo of
Sara Bhatt and Wies, who combined to scatter six hits, while
Jay Ross added two hits in the win.
The two teams conclude their four-game set tomorrow morning at 11 am.
