CARSON -- Cal State Dominguez Hills held a 5-4 lead after 7.0 innings of play, but visiting Stanislaus State tied the game with a run in the 8th and then scored thrice in the 11th to take an 8-5 win to kick off today's twinbill at Toro Field.
Justin Abercrombie tallied two hits in the loss.
Game two was knotted at 3-3 in extra innings, and was suspended due to darkness.
The contest saw the Toros jump out to a 2-0 lead with single runs in the first two innings, courtesy of a Warrior error and fielder's choice off the bat of
Eric Smelko.
After Stan State took the lead with three runs in the 3rd, CSUDH answered with single runs in the 5th and 6th on two more Warrior errors for a 4-3 lead.
Stan tied the game with a run in the 7th, only to have
Matt Mecate bring home Abercrombie in the 7th with an RBI single to right.
Looking to put the game away, however, the Toro defense committed an error with one out to start a Warrior rally, with the guests tying the game in the 8th on an unearned run.
That's where the score stood until Stan State clubbed two homers in the 11th to account for the game's final runs.
The conclusion of the nightcap will resume tomorrow at 12 noon before the series finale.
