IRVINE –
Alyssa Olague and
Ashley Wies combined for 11 strikeouts, but the Cal State Dominguez Hills bats were in near-complete silent as the Toros dropped a 3-0 score to Central Washington to wrapup the season-opening weekend at the Concordia Kickoff Classic Sunday morning.
The defending West Region champions leave Great Park with a 3-2 record and will have less than 24 hours to lift the curtain at Toro Diamond, hosting Hawai`i Pacific on a rare Monday noon start.
Other than allowing two runs, one unearned, in four innings, on four hits, Olague did have another positive result by not allowing a walk. The senior right-hander only conceded one free pass to first in the entire tournament. Wies, meanwhile, struckout five but allowed the third run across in the seventh inning on a hit and a walk.
The Toros offense had no answer to Isabel Womack, who went seven strong shutout innings allowing two hits and walks each.
Raquel Jaime had those two walks but a popup in the third inning ended her 18-game hitting streak that carried over from the postseason last year.
Jay Ross and
Alexus Corona had the hits for CSUDH.
