No. 4/6 Toros Win CCAA Regular Season Outright, Tie for Most Program Wins

SAN FRANCISCO -- Despite already earning the top seed in the latest NCAA Region poll, having clinched a share of the regular season league crown and a bye in the first round of the CCAA tournament next weekend, the No. 4/6 Cal State Dominguez Hills women's basketball team showed no signs of slowing down after a dominating 89-62 win over host San Francisco State.

Now at 26-1 overall and 20-1 in the CCAA, the Toros match the total win mark from the 2014-15 squad that repeated as CCAA Tournament Champions and qualified as the No. 2 seed in the subsequent NCAA West Region.

Asia Jordan tallied game-high honors with 19 points and 11 rebounds as the Toros used a huge 56-24 edge on the boards to run away for the Gators.

After the Gators scored the game's first bucket, the Toros went on an 11-2 run to jump to an 11-4 lead, the last three coming on a Kelsey Bell 3-pointer.  Reigning CCAA Player of the Week Dawnyel Lair made the lead 10 after a layup with 3:10 left as CSUDH ended the quarter up 22-19.

The Gators stuck around to start the second quarter, getting to within 26-23 after a bucket at the 8:42 mark.  But that seemed to awaken the Toros as the a Deejanae Poland triple began a run that saw the CCAA Champions outscore SFSU 23-9 to take a 52-32 lead after Nala Williams drained a triple six minutes later.

Freshman Kylee Edgar also got into the scoring, notching her 23rd point of the year as time expired in the quarter.

Lair ballooned the CSUDH lead to 26 at 66-39 to begin the third quarter, with the Toros putting it in cruise control the rest of the half in the win.

Jordan gave the Toros their largest lead at 85-54 early in the 4th as CSUDH won by 27.

Williams added 17, Danyell Booker 11, Lair 10 and Joe'l Benoit nine in the balanced win.

The Toros conclude the regular season on Saturday with a 1 pm matchup at CS Monterey Bay.
