No. 4 Softball Splits Again Behind Offensive Nightcap

SAN BERNARDINO -- It was deja vu all over again as the No. 4 ranked Cal State Dominguez Hills softball team used a big offensive performance in the nightcap at CS San Bernardino after being blanked to open the day.

Kaylee Hull (pictured) and Jay Ross combined for a 5-for-7 day with eight RBI and four runs scored.

After being held to just four hits in the opening 2-0 loss, the Toros wasted little time in flexing the offensive muscle in the late game that was absent in both days' opening games.

After the Toros plated their first run in the 2nd inning, Alani Nguyen belted a solo shot an inning later to double CSUDH's edge.

CSUSB answered with three runs in their bottom half of the 3rd inning before the Toros answered with 12 unearned runs to invoke the mercy run rule.

A Kianna Abellera RBi single knotted the score in the 4th, with Ross belting a 3-run shot to give the Toros a 6-3 lead.

One inning alter, an Alexus Corona RBI double, Nayah Pola RBI single, Nguyen RBI single and a Ros bases-loaded walk set the stage for Hull, who belted a grand slam to close the scoring in the 14-3 win.

Sara Bhatt was the beneficiary of CSUDH's bats, tossing 2.1 innings with two strikeouts.

The Toros return home next weekend to host San Francisco State, beginning with a Friday doubleheader.
