Bhatt Picks Up Pair of Wins as No. 13 Toros Walk Off Gators Twice

CARSON -- Newcomer Sara Bhatt picked up a pair of wins in dramatic fashion as No. 13 Cal State Dominguez Hills swept past visiting San Francisco State in a pair of walk-off gamest to improve to 10-5 overall, and 4-2 in the CCAA.

Another newcomer in Jay Ross (pictured) went 3-for-4 in the nightcap win.

It was all SFSU in the opener as the Gators built a 3-0 lead after 5.0 innings of work and held it through their last at-bat, with starter Brooklyn Heffernan limiting the Toros to just two hits.

In their final at-bat, however, CSUDH's bats finally came alive after Kaylee Hull began the rally with a leadoff double.  Alexus Corona followed with a single and Amara Labonog loaded the bases after wearing a 1-0 pitch.

After a pair of pinch runners came in for the hosts, Raquel Jaime saw four balls pass by to put the first run on the board for the Toros.  Kianna Abellera then reached on a fielder's choice to bring runners to 2nd and 3rd before Alani Nguyen lived up to her name's pronunciation by lacing a single to left center to give the Toros the 4-3 win.

Nguyen finished with a 3-for-3 effort while Jaime was walked thrice.

Bhatt picked up the win in relief, tossing 4.0 innings with a pair of Ks.

The nightcap saw the Gators take a 3-0 lead on a monster shot by Teya Vincent in the 1st, only to have the Toros tie the game on a 2RBI double by Ross and RBI single by Nayah Pola.

SFSU retook the lead in the 3rd before CSUDH answered with another three, courtesy of a bases-loaded wild pitch and 2RBI knock by Jaime.

Bhatt was cruising in relief of starter Ashley Wies, not allowing a hit over 3.0 innings of work.

The 7th, however, saw the Gators get to Bhatt with three singles and a steal of home, but Bhatt fanned Vincent on a 3-2 offering to keep the game tied.

In the bottom of the 7th, the Toros walked it off again.  After a pair of singles to lead off the inning, Pola hit a comebacker that was fielded by SFSU's pitcher, but who threw high and past the third baseman to bring home Ross, who began the frame.

Jaime finished 2-for-3 in the win as the Toros tallied 10 hits in the win.

CSUDH takes to the road to face Cal Poly Humboldt this week, with game one of Friday's doubleheader starting at 12 noon.
