SAN BERNARDINO --
Alex Davis and
Amara Labonog (pictured) each knocked a pair of hits as No. 4 Cal State Dominguez Hills took a 5-2 nightcap decision over host CS San Bernardino after the Coyotes blanked the Toros, 2-0, in the opener.
After seeing their bats go silent in the opener, the Toros scored early and often in the nightcap en route to the 5-2 win.
A
Sydney Diaz bases loaded brought home the game's first run in the 2nd inning, which was followed by a booming double by
Alexus Corona to bring home two more for a 3-0 lead an inning later.
After
Nayah Pola brought home CSUDH's fourth run with an RBI groundout, Davis pulled a double down the left field line in the 6th to bring home
Raquel Jaime for a 5-0 lead.
The hosts finally got on the board with a pair of runs in their final at-bat, but it was too little too late as the Toros earned the split.
Alyssa Olague earned the win after tossing 5.2 innings, fanning five against three walks.
The Toros mustered just four hits in the opener, but left two runners on in three of the seven innings.
The two teams continue their four-game series tomorrow, with game one set for a 12 noon start.
