CARSON – The Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros notched a convincing 81-65 win over the Cal State Monterey Bay Otters, improving their record to 3-6 overall and 1-3 in CCAA play.
The Toros took control early on, outscoring Monterey Bay 29-22 in the first quarter and building on their lead with a 22-10 run in the second. Despite a resurgence from the Otters in the third quarter, where they outscored the Toros 24-11, the Toros held firm and closed out the game strong with a 19-9 fourth quarter.
Cristina Oliva led the scoring for the Toros with an impressive 20 points. She showcased her sharpshooting skills, going 5-12 from the field, including 1-6 from three-point territory, and was flawless at the free-throw line with 9-9 shooting.
Nala Williams and
Hosanna Walker each contributed 12 points. Williams added a remarkable six steals to her stat line. She also contributed five rebounds and three assists. Walker shot an efficient 4-7 from the field and 4-6 from the free-throw line, while also grabbing two rebounds.
Asia Jordan put up 10 points and led the team with eight rebounds, contributing significantly to the Toros' control of the boards. She also blocked two shots, contributing to the Toros' strong defensive effort.
Danyell Booker added a solid eight points on 3-5 shooting and was perfect from the free-throw line, contributing to the team's overall 21-34 performance from the stripe.
Joe'l Benoit and
Amaya Snowden also played crucial roles. Benoit scored five points, dished out two assists, and made three steals, while Snowden contributed six points and five rebounds.
The Toros return to Torodome on Tuesday, December 19
th as they take on Bethesda Univeristy at 2pm.
