SAN MARCOS, Calif. – In a hard-fought contest, the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros fell short against the Cal State San Marcos Cougars with a final score of 62-67. The game was a tough back-and-forth battle, but the Toros couldn't quite close the gap in the fourth quarter.
The Toros faced an early deficit, ending the first quarter down 12-20. They looked to bounce back in the second quarter but were outpaced slightly by CSUSM, who added 22 points to the Toros' 20, widening the gap to a 10-point lead at halftime.
Then Toros continued to fight in the third, putting up 12 points against San Marcos' 14. Heading into the final quarter, the Toros rallied to outscore San Marcos 18-11, but their spirited comeback fell just short as the clock ran out.
Nala Williams stood out as the leading scorer for Cal State Dominguez Hills. In 33 minutes of play, she scored 15 points, hitting 5 of 13 field goals, including 2 of 6 from beyond the arc, and was perfect from the free-throw line with 3 of 3. Her presence was also felt on the defensive end, where she gathered nine rebounds and made an impressive six steals.
Amaya Snowden also put up a significant performance, adding 13 points on an efficient 3 of 5 shooting, all from three-point land, and was also perfect on free throws, making all four attempts. Snowden contributed five rebounds and had a block, showing her versatility on the court.
Joe'l Benoit contributed 10 points and was another key player for the Toros, shooting 3 of 8 from the field and making 4 of 6 at the free-throw line, alongside two rebounds and an assist.
Danyell Booker came off the bench to contribute nine points, hitting 3 of 6 shots and 3 of 4 free throws, along with three rebounds, showing the depth of the Toros' roster.
