Sanchez-Tellez and Saporetti Each Tally 12 Kills In Loss To Cougars

CARSON — In an electrifying volleyball showdown, the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros faced a formidable challenge from the Cal State San Marcos Cougars, ultimately succumbing to a closely contested five-set match.
 
The set scores tell the tale of the hard-fought battle: 25-20, 18-25, 25-21, 21-25, 8-15 in favor of the Cougars. The Toros took the early lead by securing the first set with a score of 25-20, showcasing their attacking prowess and strong defensive plays. They displayed remarkable teamwork and composure, setting the tone for an intense matchup.
 
Shelby Saporetti emerged as a standout leader for the Toros, recording an impressive 12 kills. Her offensive contributions, along with 11 digs and three blocks, earned her a total of 14 points for the match.
 
Also tallying 12 kills was Camila Sanchez-Tellez, who also had four digs, and one block on the game.
 
Jesi Diekmann played a pivotal role, contributing six kills, three blocks, and 11.5 points to the team's effort. Her solid all-around performance was essential in the closely contested battle.
 
Kayly Pau displayed her ability to attack with eight kills, further reinforcing the Toros' offensive capabilities.
 
Bailey Fuches stepped up as a key playmaker, tallying 24 assists and contributing seven kills, 14 digs, and 11 points. Evania Sanchez orchestrated the Toros' offense with precision, recording 23 assists and 10 digs. Her setting skills were crucial in creating scoring opportunities for her teammates.
 
Despite their formidable opponents, the Toros fought valiantly, with contributions from various student-athletes, including Nina Robles, who contributed 19 digs and played a vital role in the team's defensive efforts.
 
The Toros are on the road next weekend with their first match on Friday, November 10th as they head to Arcata to take on the Chico State Wildcats at 1pm.
