CARSON – The Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros were edged out in a thrilling overtime battle against the Sonoma State Seawolves, with the final score standing at 83-77.
The match began with both teams neck and neck, ending the first quarter tied at 17 points each. The Toros managed to pull ahead slightly in the second quarter, outscoring Sonoma State 19-13. However, the Seawolves bounced back by putting up 21 points to the Toros' 16 in the third quarter. The Seawolves gained the lead in the fourth quarter, but a made shot in the paint by Cris Oliva with 18 seconds left on the clock tied the gain, forcing overtime.
In overtime the Seawolves outscored the Toros 12-6. The extra session saw the Toros battling hard but ultimately fell to the Seawolves, 83-77.
Nala Williams was the leading scorer for the Toros with 15 points. Shooting efficiently at 6-11 from the field and 2-4 from three-point range, Williams also contributed seven rebounds and five assists, demonstrating her all-around game.
Also making a significant impact on the game was
Cristina Oliva as she tallied 16 points. Her 3-9 from beyond the arc was crucial, and she contributed two rebounds and four assists.
Danyell Booker provided a spark with 12 points, going 5-10 from the field, and added three rebounds to her stat line.
Joe'l Benoit contributed 11 points on an impressive 5-8 shooting, while also grabbing three rebounds.
Dominating the boards was
Asia Jordan as she led the team with 10 rebounds. Jordan also added seven points and a team-high five assists, showcasing her versatility.
Hosanna Walker made her presence felt with six points, two rebounds, and two steals, contributing on both ends of the floor.
Malia Goldsmith contributed eight points and four assists, playing a key role in the Toros' offensive setup.
