CARSON – The Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros opened the season with a resounding victory over the Claremont-Mudd-Scripts Athenas with a final score of 69-54, as
Asia Jordan secures first double-double on the season.
The Toros displayed dominated the boards with 45 rebounds on the game against Athenas 28 rebounds. They also scored 44 of their points from the paint, 21 points from second chance opportunities. The largest lead for the Toros was in the fourth quarter when they were up 23 points with 1:38 remaining in the game.
Leading the way for the Toros was
Asia Jordan, who had an exceptional night on the court. Jordan played a pivotal role, scoring 22 points while shooting an impressive 9-13 from the field. Her dominance extended beyond scoring, as she also contributed 10 rebounds, securing her first double-double of the season.
Hosanna Walker showcased her skills with seven points. Her all-around game came to the forefront with five rebounds and two assists.
Kylee Edgar, another key contributor, provided steady support with six points and four rebounds, and she proved instrumental in facilitating ball movement with six assists.
In addition,
Rebecca Penner contributed five points, two assists, and three rebounds, while
Kylie Gallick added two points and was a defensive force with three rebounds and a steal.
Off the bench,
Malia Goldsmith added eight points of her own and
Gabrielle Wright scored seven.
Zanna Hurst hit from long range, connecting on two three-pointers as she closed the game with six points.
The Toros return to the Torodome on Wednesday, November 15th as they take on Concordia University at 5:30pm.
