Toros Sweep Cal State Monterey Bay Otters In Straight Sets

CARSON – In an impressive display of heart, the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros triumphed over the Cal State Monterey Bay Otters, securing victory in three sets with set scores of 25-22, 25-19, and 25-18.
 
In the first set, the Toros recorded 14 kills with a hitting percentage of 0.429. In the second set, the Toros maintained their offensive efficiency with 16 kills and a hitting percentage of 0.342. Despite a slightly lower hitting percentage in the third set, 0.2, the team displayed solid teamwork, culminating in a total of 40 kills out of 101 total attempts and an overall hitting percentage of .317.
 
Key players played pivotal roles in the Toros' success. Kaylin Hayes an amazing performance as she tallied 10 kills, and three block assists on the night. Jesi Diekmann also emerged as a standout performer, amassing 8.5 points while maintaining an impressive hitting percentage of .556. Diekmann's contributions included five kills, four block, and two digs, setting the tone for the Toros' offense.
 
Kayly Pau demonstrated her offensive prowess, earning a notable nine points with seven kills, three blocks, and two aces. Pau's hitting percentage of .389 underscored her effectiveness on the court as a reliable offensive force.
 
Bailey Fuches assumed a crucial role in orchestrating the Toros' offense, delivering a remarkable 20 assists and contributing 2.5 points, including one blocks. Fuches' skillful setting proved instrumental in the team's success.
 
Evania Sanchez shared setting duties with Fuches, recording 17 assists and notching two points with two aces. Sanchez displayed steady playmaking skills and made valuable contributions on both sides of the court as she also collected five digs.
 
In the backcourt, Nina Robles excelled with an impressive 22 digs. Robles also added an offensive spark with five points, including four aces, providing a well-rounded contribution to the Toros' victory.
 
Ava Hurry made a significant impact, accumulating 10 points, including seven kills and two blocks, all while maintaining a commendable hitting percentage of .353. Hurry's presence on the court was unmistakable, and her contributions were vital to the Toros' commanding performance.
 
The Toros hit the road next week with their first match on Thursday, October 26th against Cal State San Bernardino at 7pm in Coussoulis Arena.
