CHICO – Trailing for a majority of the game, the Cal State Dominguez Hills men's basketball team made one final effort to rally from at least an 11-point deficit but ran out of time and Chico State held on to win the CCAA game 69-63 at Acker Gym Thursday evening.
The Toros drop to .500 at 6-6 while falling to 2-4 in conference play. Chico also evened its record at six and 4-3 in the CCAA.
Dominguez Hills was trailing 64-53 with five minutes remaining in the game. Although the Toros went on a 10-5 run the remainder of the period, the 'Cats scored all their points on the free throw line, going 5-for-7.
Jordan Hilstock scored a dozen points,
Cameron Barry had 11 and
Damien Miller and
David Cheatom each had 10. Altogether, the Toros shot 34.8 percent from the field.
Hunter Seymour had eight of the Toros' 41 rebounds to lead the team in that column.
The Wildcats hit 39.3 percent of their shots while going to the glass 49 times.
Dominguez Hills concludes the three-game road trip in the Central Valley Saturday, taking on Stanislaus State at 3 p.m.
